Caerlaverock Castle stands out as one of Scotland's most distinctive medieval fortresses due to its rare triangular design. Nearby, the remains of an earlier castle lie about 300 meters south, accessible via a nature trail through woodland.

The castle site includes a visitor centre featuring historical displays and a small museum, alongside restrooms and a gift shop. During summer and winter weekends, a tearoom offers freshly baked goods and coffee with views of the castle. Families will appreciate the castle-themed adventure park for children. The castle’s location on the edge of the Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve provides opportunities for nature walks and birdwatching, especially for spotting barnacle geese and other waterfowl.
