Barker's Pool traces its roots back to at least the 15th century, originally known as Balm Green, a site likely used for herb cultivation. The name derives from a Mr. Barker who owned a water reservoir here, which supplied the town's drinking water and was used to flush the streets, helping maintain cleanliness in Sheffield's early urban environment. This reservoir was demolished in the late 18th century, but the area has remained central to the city's development ever since.
