Getting There

    From Colonia, start your journey by taking Route 1 (Ruta 1) heading east toward Montevideo. Continue on Route 1 for approximately 200 kilometers until you reach the junction with Route 9 (Ruta 9) near the town of San Carlos. Take Route 9 north towards the town of Rocha. After about 50 kilometers, look for signs directing you to Route 15 (Ruta 15) and turn onto it. Follow Route 15 for approximately 30 kilometers until you reach the entrance to Cabo Polonio National Park. Note that the last stretch of the road to Cabo Polonio is unpaved, and a 4x4 vehicle is recommended to navigate the sand roads.

    To reach Cabo Polonio National Park using public transportation, first take a bus from Colonia to Montevideo. Several bus companies operate this route, and the trip takes about 2 hours. Once in Montevideo, transfer to a bus heading to Barra de Valizas. The bus ride from Montevideo to Barra de Valizas usually takes about 3 hours. Upon arriving at Barra de Valizas, you will need to take a 4x4 vehicle (available at the bus stop) that will take you directly to Cabo Polonio.
