Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from Punta del Este, which is approximately 300 km away from the Artigas Plateau. Take Route 9 heading northwest for about 200 km until you reach the junction with Route 3. Turn left onto Route 3 and continue for about 50 km. After that, take the exit toward Route 26. Follow Route 26 for around 30 km until you see signs for Chapicuy. The Artigas Plateau is located just outside Chapicuy, and you can find it easily by navigating to the coordinates (Latitude: -31.61308, Longitude: -57.98370). Parking is available near the site, usually for free.

• Public Transportation

  To reach the Artigas Plateau using public transportation, take a bus from Montevideo to Paysandú, which operates frequently throughout the day. The bus ride will take approximately 7 hours and costs around 500 UYU. Once you arrive in Paysandú, transfer to a local bus heading to Chapicuy. The local bus ride will take about 1 hour and costs approximately 100 UYU. Upon arriving in Chapicuy, you can either walk or take a taxi to the Artigas Plateau, which is about 5 km away from the bus stop. Taxis in the area are relatively inexpensive, costing around 150 UYU.

• Combination of Car and Hiking

  If you are near the coastal towns like La Paloma or Rocha, you might have to drive north to reach the Artigas Plateau. Drive to Route 9 and then follow the same directions as outlined for travelers from Punta del Este. Once you arrive, there are hiking trails around the plateau that offer stunning views. Ensure you wear proper hiking shoes and bring water, as there are limited facilities in the area.
