Bus
From the center of Maldonado, head to the Maldonado Bus Terminal located at Av. Batlle y Ordóñez. Take a local bus heading towards José Ignacio. Buses generally run every 30 to 60 minutes. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Laguna José Ignacio. The ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes. After you get off, the lake will be a short walk; follow the signs heading toward the lake, which is about a 10-minute walk from the bus stop.

If you prefer biking, you can rent a bicycle in Maldonado. Start from Plaza Libertad and head east on Av. Aiguá until you reach Ruta 10. Turn left onto Ruta 10 and continue straight. Follow the road signs for José Ignacio. The distance is approximately 20 kilometers and should take around 1-1.5 hours, depending on your biking speed. Once you reach the vicinity of Laguna José Ignacio, you will see signs directing you to the lake.

Although it is quite a distance to walk, if you are feeling adventurous and fit, you can start walking from the city center of Maldonado. Head east on Av. Aiguá and continue straight until you reach Ruta 10. This route is approximately 20 kilometers and will take you around 4-5 hours. Be sure to take plenty of water and wear comfortable shoes. Once you reach the edge of Laguna José Ignacio, follow the paths leading down to the water.
