Getting There

• Car

  To reach the Montevideo Metropolitan Cathedral from Rivera by car, start by heading southeast on Route 5 (Ruta 5) towards Montevideo. The drive is approximately 500 km and takes about 5 to 6 hours. Once you arrive in Montevideo, follow the signs for the city center. As you approach the city, you will take the exit toward Avenida 18 de Julio. Continue on this avenue until you reach Plaza Independencia. From Plaza Independencia, take Sarandí Street (Calle Sarandí) towards the east. Turn left onto Ituzaingó Street (Calle Ituzaingó), and the Cathedral will be on your right at number 1373.

• Bus

  If you are taking a bus from Rivera to Montevideo, head to the Terminal de Ómnibus de Rivera. Purchase a ticket for a bus to Montevideo; companies like COT and COPSA operate this route. The journey takes around 6 to 7 hours. Upon arrival at the Tres Cruces Bus Terminal in Montevideo, exit the terminal and take a taxi or local bus to Plaza Independencia. From there, walk east along Sarandí Street (Calle Sarandí), then turn left onto Ituzaingó Street (Calle Ituzaingó). The Montevideo Metropolitan Cathedral will be located at number 1373 on your right.

• Taxi

  For convenience, you can also take a taxi from Rivera to Montevideo. This option can be more expensive, with fares potentially exceeding $100 USD, depending on your negotiation and time of travel. The taxi will take the same route as a car, taking approximately 5 to 6 hours to reach the Cathedral directly. Ensure to confirm the fare before starting your journey.

• Local Transportation

  Once in Montevideo, if you're using local transportation, you can take the Montevideo Metro or local buses to get to the city center. The Cathedral is centrally located and easily accessible. Look for buses with routes that stop at or near Plaza Independencia, and walk from there to Ituzaingó Street (Calle Ituzaingó) to find the Cathedral.
