Obelisco de Treinta y Tres: A Monumental Tribute to History

Getting There

• Car

  From Rocha, head northwest on Route 9. Continue for approximately 90 km until you reach the junction with Route 8. Take the exit onto Route 8 towards Treinta y Tres. Follow Route 8 for about 45 km until reaching Treinta y Tres. Once in Treinta y Tres, look for signs directing you to the center of the city. The Obelisco de Treinta y Tres is located at QJC9+6VC, Manuel Meléndez, which is near the city center. Parking is typically available nearby, but be cautious of local parking regulations.

• Bus

  From the main bus terminal in Rocha, purchase a ticket to Treinta y Tres. Buses run regularly, and the journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive at the Treinta y Tres bus terminal, exit the bus station and walk towards the city center. The Obelisco de Treinta y Tres is located at QJC9+6VC, Manuel Meléndez, which is approximately a 10-15 minute walk from the bus terminal. Follow the main road towards the center until you see the obelisk.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct option after arriving in Treinta y Tres, you can take a taxi from the bus terminal to the Obelisco de Treinta y Tres. The taxi ride should take about 5 minutes, depending on traffic, and costs approximately UYU 100-150 (about USD 2.50-4.00). Ensure to agree on the fare beforehand or check that the meter is running.

• Walking

  If you are already in Treinta y Tres and wish to walk to the Obelisco, start from the main square (Plaza 19 de Abril) and head east along Manuel Meléndez Street. The obelisk is about a 10-minute walk from the square. Look for the tall monument; it is a prominent landmark and should be easily visible.
