Getting There

Walking
Start your journey at the Escalante Visitor Center located at 755 W Main St, Escalante, UT 84726. From the Visitor Center, head west on Main Street for about 0.5 miles until you reach the junction with Highway 12. Turn left onto Highway 12 heading south. Continue walking on the shoulder of Highway 12 for approximately 2 miles until you reach the turnoff for the Devils Garden Trailhead on your right.

Hiking
Once you arrive at the Devils Garden Trailhead, you will see a well-marked trailhead sign. Begin your hike on the Devils Garden Trail. The trail is approximately 3 miles round trip to Metate Arch. Follow the trail as it winds through the beautiful rock formations and hoodoos. Keep an eye out for trail markers to ensure you stay on track. The trail can be somewhat rugged, so wear sturdy shoes and carry enough water. After about 1.5 miles, you will see Metate Arch appear on your left.

Return Hiking
After enjoying Metate Arch, retrace your steps back along the same trail to the Devils Garden Trailhead. Make sure to take in the scenery as you hike back, as the views will be different on your return.
