From Escalante, head east on Main Street (Utah Route 12) for about 1 mile until you reach the junction with the Hole-in-the-Rock Road. Turn right onto Hole-in-the-Rock Road. After approximately 7 miles, you will come to an unmarked trailhead on your left. Park your bike or tie your horse here as there is no formal parking. Begin your hike on the trail that leads into the canyon. Follow the trail for about 2 miles, keeping an eye out for trail markers. Big Flat is located at the end of this trail, where you will find a wide, flat area surrounded by stunning geological formations. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks for your hike.
