Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car within the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, head south on US-191 from the Flaming Gorge Dam area. Continue on US-191 for approximately 30 miles until you reach the town of Vernal, Utah. Once in Vernal, turn left onto 500 North and follow it until you reach State Route 88. Turn right onto State Route 88 and follow it for about 2.5 miles. Then, turn left onto McConkie Road. Continue on McConkie Road for about 0.5 miles until you see the parking area for the McConkie Ranch Petroglyphs on your right. There is no fee to park.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you will first need to reach Vernal, Utah, as there are limited public transit options in this area. Check local bus schedules (such as the Uintah County Transit) for routes from nearby cities to Vernal. Once in Vernal, you can use a taxi or rideshare service to get to McConkie Ranch Petroglyphs. Request a ride to '6228 McConkie Rd, Vernal, UT 84078', which is the address for the petroglyphs. Please note that public transportation may require some planning ahead, as services may not be frequent.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, biking to McConkie Ranch from Vernal is also an option. Begin at the intersection of US-191 and 500 North in Vernal. Head south on US-191 and then follow the same route as cars to State Route 88. Be cautious of traffic, as some stretches may not have dedicated bike lanes. The ride is approximately 10 miles one way, so ensure you are prepared with water and snacks, as well as a map or GPS for navigation.
