If you're starting from downtown Moab, head east on Main Street until you reach the intersection with Mill Creek Drive. Turn left onto Mill Creek Drive and continue until you reach the entrance of the Mill Creek Canyon Trailhead. From here, follow the trail signs for Merrimac Butte. The hike will take you up to the peak, offering stunning views along the way. The total walking distance is approximately 3 miles one way, so be prepared for a round trip of about 6 miles.
Biking
For those who prefer biking, rent a bike from a local shop in Moab. Head east on Main Street and take Mill Creek Drive as described for the walking route. Biking will allow you to cover the distance faster, and you’ll find the trailhead well-marked. The ride to the trailhead is approximately 2 miles, and the biking trail continues for a short distance to Merrimac Butte. Make sure to wear a helmet and bring plenty of water.
