Getting There

• Car

  From any location within San Rafael Swell, head southeast toward I-70. If you're near the San Rafael Swell Visitor Center, take UT-24 E and then merge onto I-70 E. Continue on I-70 E for approximately 16 miles. Take exit 57 for US-89 S toward Kanab and drive for about 9 miles. Turn left onto Parowan Gap Rd, and follow the road for about 3 miles. The petroglyphs will be on your right. There’s a small parking area available for visitors.

• Public Transportation

  While public transportation options are limited in rural Utah, you can take a Greyhound or another intercity bus service to a nearby town like Cedar City. From Cedar City, you would need to arrange for a local taxi or rideshare service to reach Parowan Gap Petroglyphs, which is about 20 miles northeast. Ensure you check bus schedules ahead of time, as service can be infrequent. Costs may vary based on the service provider.

• Bicycle

  For those adventurous enough to bike, you can start from the San Rafael Swell Visitor Center. Head southeast on UT-24, then merge onto I-70 E (note it's not recommended to bike on interstate highways). Instead, look for a suitable backroad or trail that connects to US-89 S. Once you reach Parowan Gap Rd, follow it for about 3 miles to the petroglyphs. Ensure you have the appropriate gear and check the weather, as biking can be challenging in this terrain.

• Walking/Hiking

  If you're already camping or hiking in the San Rafael Swell, you may choose to hike to Parowan Gap Petroglyphs. Depending on your location, plan a route that follows the available trails leading toward the petroglyphs. Note that this could be a lengthy hike, and you should carry plenty of water and snacks. The closest major trail is from the San Rafael River, which may require navigating through rugged terrain.
