Getting There
Car
If you are starting from the Zion Canyon Visitor Center, head east on Zion-Springdale Road (UT-9) for about 1 mile. Turn right onto South Fork Road, which later becomes Kolob Terrace Road. Continue on this road for approximately 12 miles until you reach the end of the road at the Kolob Reservoir. Note that this is not the final destination, but it is the closest point to access the trailhead for The Subway. You will need to park your vehicle at the designated parking area near the reservoir.
Hiking
From the Kolob Reservoir parking area, you will need to hike to The Subway. The hike to The Subway is about 9 miles round trip and can take anywhere from 5 to 8 hours, depending on your pace and the conditions. Follow the well-marked trail that descends from the parking area and leads down into the canyon. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks, wear sturdy hiking boots, and check the weather conditions before you start. The trail can be steep and rocky in places.
Public Transportation
Currently, there is no direct public transportation service to The Subway. However, you can take the Zion Shuttle from various points in Springdale or Zion National Park to the Zion Canyon Visitor Center. From there, you will need to rent a car or arrange for a shuttle service that goes to the Kolob Reservoir. Be sure to check the shuttle schedule and book any necessary reservations in advance.
Permits
Please note that a permit is required to hike to The Subway. You can obtain a permit from the Zion National Park website or at the park's visitor center. Permits may be limited, especially during peak seasons, so it is advisable to secure one well in advance of your trip.
Costs
In addition to the cost of the permit, if you are traveling by car, be aware that there is an entrance fee for Zion National Park.
