Getting There
Car
If you are driving from Bukhara city, take the A-380 highway heading southeast. After approximately 35 kilometers, look for the signs directing you towards the Bukhara Region mountains. You will need to turn off onto an unpaved road for the last 10 kilometers. Be cautious, as this road can be bumpy and may require a vehicle with good suspension. Once you reach the base of Bugor Kum-Sultan, park your car in the designated area and hike the remaining distance to the peak.
Public Transportation
To reach Bugor Kum-Sultan via public transport, first head to the Bukhara bus station. Look for shared taxis or minibuses heading towards the village of Qorakol. The fare should be around 5,000 UZS. The journey will take about 45 minutes. Once you arrive in Qorakol, you will need to hire a local taxi to take you to Bugor Kum-Sultan, which will cost approximately 20,000 UZS for the round trip. Make sure to negotiate the price before starting your journey. The taxi driver can drop you off near the base of the mountain, from where you can hike to the summit.
Hiking
For the adventurous traveler, consider hiking from Qorakol to Bugor Kum-Sultan. This option requires a good level of fitness and preparation. The hike is approximately 8 kilometers and can take around 2-3 hours depending on your pace. Start your hike early in the morning to avoid the heat, and make sure to carry sufficient water and snacks. The path is not well-marked, so it’s advisable to have a local guide or a map.
