Walking
From the center of St. Peter's Square, face the Basilica. Walk directly towards the Basilica and you will see the large steps leading up to the entrance. Instead of entering the Basilica, veer slightly to your right towards the colonnades, and look for a small entrance door labeled 'Scavi' or 'Excavation Office'. This entrance is near the right side of the Basilica, close to the Vatican Museums. Follow the signs that say 'Scavi' or 'Excavation Office' until you reach the office. The office is located at the coordinates WF23+MJ2, Piazza San Pietro, Vatican City.
