Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, head towards Elmore State Park, located at 856 VT-12, Elmore, VT 05661. From anywhere in Caledonia County, take I-91 S towards St. Johnsbury. Merge onto US-2 W in St. Johnsbury and continue on US-2 for about 22 miles. Turn left onto VT-12 S and follow it for approximately 10 miles until you reach the park entrance on your left. There is a day-use fee of $4 for Vermont residents and $8 for non-residents that can be paid at the park entrance.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you will need to take a Greyhound or local bus service to St. Johnsbury. Once in St. Johnsbury, you can use the local taxi service or rideshare apps like Uber or Lyft to reach Elmore State Park. The distance from St. Johnsbury to the park is about 30 miles, so be prepared for a taxi fare that may range from $50 to $80 depending on the service and time of day.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer biking, you can take the scenic route from St. Johnsbury to Elmore State Park. Follow the same directions as the car route, but be cautious of traffic on VT-12, as it can be busy. This route is approximately 30 miles and will take around 2-3 hours depending on your cycling speed and stops.

• Walking/Hiking

  For adventurous hikers, if you are already near Elmore, you can hike to the park from surrounding trails. The most popular access point is from the Elmore Mountain Trail, which leads directly into the park. Make sure to check trail conditions and prepare for a rugged hike, as this option is suitable for experienced hikers only.
