Travel Guide to North Pawlet Hills Natural Area

Getting There

• Car

  From Emerald Lake State Park, head west on Park Rd towards VT-30. After about 0.5 miles, turn left onto VT-30 South. Continue on VT-30 South for approximately 7 miles until you reach the intersection with Waite Hill Rd. Turn right onto Waite Hill Rd. After about 1 mile, you will arrive at North Pawlet Hills Natural Area. Look for parking along the road.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, the nearest bus service is the Green Mountain Express. From Emerald Lake State Park, you will need to walk to the nearest bus stop located on VT-30. Take the bus heading south towards Manchester. Get off at the Pawlet stop. From there, you will need to walk about 2 miles north along VT-30 to reach Waite Hill Rd. Turn right onto Waite Hill Rd and continue for approximately 1 mile until you arrive at North Pawlet Hills Natural Area. Note that bus schedules may vary, so check the latest timetable for service availability.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, you can ride from Emerald Lake State Park. Exit the park and head west on Park Rd to VT-30. Turn left onto VT-30 South and cycle for about 7 miles. Once you reach Waite Hill Rd, turn right and continue for about 1 mile until you reach North Pawlet Hills Natural Area. Be sure to wear a helmet and follow all road safety guidelines while cycling.

• Walking

  If you're feeling adventurous and want to hike to North Pawlet Hills Natural Area, you can do so by first walking to the intersection of Park Rd and VT-30. From there, follow VT-30 South for approximately 7 miles. This route may take several hours, so be sure to bring water and snacks. Once you reach Waite Hill Rd, turn right and continue for about 1 mile to your destination.
