Car
If you are driving, start from the center of Montpelier, VT. Head east on Route 2 towards Worcester. Continue on Route 2 for approximately 10 miles. As you approach Worcester, you will see signs for CC Putnam State Forest. Turn onto Putnam State Forest Road, which is a small road on your right. Follow this road until you reach the parking area for the forest, where you can find access to various trails and recreational areas.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take the Greyhound bus from Burlington, VT to Montpelier, VT. The bus ride takes about 1 hour. Once in Montpelier, you will need to take a taxi or rideshare service (such as Uber or Lyft) to CC Putnam State Forest, which is approximately a 15-minute drive from the bus station. Be sure to check the availability of rideshare services in the area beforehand as it may vary.
Biking
For those who enjoy biking, you can bike from Montpelier to CC Putnam State Forest. The distance is about 10 miles and can be accomplished via Route 2. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow safety rules while biking alongside traffic. Note that this route may involve some hilly terrain, so be prepared for a workout!
Walking
Walking to CC Putnam State Forest is not recommended due to the distance from Montpelier (around 10 miles) and the lack of pedestrian pathways along Route 2. However, if you are staying nearby in Worcester, you can walk to the forest. From the center of Worcester, it's a short 1-mile walk to the entrance of the forest along Putnam State Forest Road.
