Summit Serenity: Exploring Mt. Mansfield

Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving, start by heading north on VT-15 from the center of Mount Mansfield. Continue for about 4 miles until you reach the junction with Underhill Road. Turn left onto Underhill Road and follow it for approximately 3 miles. Look for signs directing you to the Mt. Mansfield State Forest entrance. Once you arrive at the parking area, be prepared to pay the parking fee of $4 for a day pass.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take the Green Mountain Transit bus from Burlington to Underhill. The bus departs from the Burlington Transit Center. You will need to check the schedule, as service may be limited. Once you arrive in Underhill, it's about a 2-mile walk to the Mt. Mansfield State Forest entrance, where you can access the trailhead. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and plan for the walk back after your visit.

• Taxi/Ride Share

  If you prefer not to drive or take public transportation, consider using a taxi or ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft. Simply request a ride from your location in Mount Mansfield to the Mt. Mansfield State Forest entrance. The fare may vary based on your exact starting point, but expect it to be around $15-$25 for a one-way trip. Make sure to confirm with your driver that they know the destination.

• Biking

  If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a bike in Mount Mansfield and ride to Mt. Mansfield. Head north on VT-15 and then take Underhill Road as described earlier. The ride is approximately 7 miles from the center of Mount Mansfield to the parking area. Make sure to wear a helmet and bring water, as the road can be steep in places.
