Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Ha Giang city, which is a common entry point in Northeast Vietnam. Take National Route 2 heading south towards Tuyen Quang. After about 100 km, merge onto National Route 37 and continue for approximately 70 km until you reach Yen Bai. From Yen Bai, take National Route 32 towards Phu Tho. After around 50 km, you'll arrive at the town of Viet Tri. From Viet Tri, head towards the coast, following signs for Vinh Phuc. Once you reach the coastal area, look for signs directing you to the ferry terminal that services Ile des Cendres. The ferry ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Ensure you check the ferry schedule in advance, as timings can vary.
Public Transportation
To reach Ile des Cendres via public transportation, start at the nearest bus station in your current location in Northeast Vietnam. Take a bus to Ha Giang city, which is a central hub. From Ha Giang, find a bus heading towards Tuyen Quang. Once you arrive in Tuyen Quang, catch another bus on National Route 2 heading south to Yen Bai. After reaching Yen Bai, switch to a local bus or taxi towards Phu Tho. From Phu Tho, you will need to take a taxi to the ferry terminal. Be sure to confirm the taxi fare beforehand to avoid surprises. Once at the ferry terminal, buy your ticket for the ferry to Ile des Cendres and enjoy the scenic ride, which takes about 30 minutes.
