Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start by heading southeast on National Route 6 (QL6) from any point in Northwest Vietnam. Continue on QL6 until you reach the intersection with National Route 32 (QL32). Follow QL32 southbound until it merges with National Route 1A (QL1A) towards Hanoi. Once you enter Hanoi, follow the signs for Hoàn Kiếm District. As you approach the city center, follow local road signs directing you to Hoàn Kiếm Lake. There are multiple parking options around the lake, but be aware of potential parking fees ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 VND per hour.

• Bus

  If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from your location in Northwest Vietnam to Hanoi. Look for bus services that operate from major towns such as Sơn La or Điện Biên Phủ to Hanoi. Once you arrive at the main bus station in Hanoi (Giáp Bát or Mỹ Đình), you can take a local bus or taxi to Hoàn Kiếm Lake. Local buses such as line 14 and 18 run frequently to the Hoàn Kiếm area. A bus ticket typically costs around 7,000 VND. Upon arriving at Hoàn Kiếm Lake, you can enjoy a walk around the lake and the surrounding area.

• Taxi or Ride-hailing Service

  For a more direct route, consider using a taxi or a ride-hailing service like Grab. From any part of Northwest Vietnam, first, travel to Hanoi via bus or train, then use a taxi or Grab from your arrival point to Hoàn Kiếm Lake. The fare for a taxi from the center of Hanoi to Hoàn Kiếm Lake should range from 50,000 to 100,000 VND depending on traffic conditions.

• Train

  If you are near a train station in Northwest Vietnam, consider taking a train to Hanoi. Vietnam Railways operates several routes connecting cities in the Northwest to Hanoi. After arriving at Hà Nội Railway Station, you can either walk (approximately 30 minutes) or take a taxi or local bus to Hoàn Kiếm Lake. The train fare varies based on the class of service, starting from around 100,000 VND for a hard seat to over 300,000 VND for a soft sleeper.
