Getting There

  • Public Bus

    From downtown Charlottesville, head to the Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) bus stop at the Downtown Transit Center located at 615 E Water St. You can catch the Route 8 or Route 10 bus towards the U.S. 29 North. Stay on the bus for about 30 minutes until you reach the stop at the intersection of U.S. 29 and Route 250 Bypass. From there, transfer to the Route 27 bus, which will take you to the entrance of Shenandoah National Park. The national park entrance is approximately a 10-minute walk from the bus stop. Follow the signs to the park entrance.

  • Bicycle

    Rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Charlottesville. Once you have your bike, start at the Downtown Mall and ride north on 2nd St NE. Continue onto Park St and follow it until it becomes U.S. 29 N. Stay on U.S. 29 N for approximately 15 miles. Once you reach the entrance to Shenandoah National Park, there will be signs directing you into the park. The ride will take about 1.5 hours, so make sure to plan accordingly.

  • Walking

    While walking to Shenandoah National Park is not practical due to the distance, you can take a scenic walk to the nearest bus stop at the Downtown Transit Center. From the Downtown Mall, walk east on Main St until you reach 6th St NE, then turn left and continue until you reach E Water St where the bus stop is located. Take the Route 8 or Route 10 bus towards U.S. 29 North, as described in the Public Bus section.
