Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Williamsburg, Virginia, which is a central location in the Historic Triangle. Head south on VA-31 S (Carter's Grove Road). After approximately 2 miles, turn right onto Jamestown Road (VA-31 S). Continue on this road for about 5 miles until you see the entrance sign for Jamestown Island on your right. Follow the signs for parking. Note that there is an entry fee of $14 per vehicle, which covers access to the Historic Jamestowne site.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, your best option is to take a bus from Williamsburg to the Jamestown area. You can catch the Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (WATA) bus 1 or 4 from the downtown area. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at the Jamestown Settlement stop. From there, you will need to walk approximately 1 mile to reach the entrance of Jamestown Island. Be prepared for an entry fee of $14 per vehicle if you decide to join a vehicle tour at the entrance.
Bicycle
If you enjoy cycling, you can bike to Jamestown Island. From Williamsburg, take the scenic route along the Virginia Capital Trail. This trail leads you directly to Jamestown Island and offers beautiful views of the James River. The ride is approximately 15 miles and may take about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on your pace. Remember to secure your bike at the designated bike racks near the entrance, and entry to the island will be $14 per vehicle, so be prepared for that cost if you are joining a group.
