Car
From the Historic Triangle area, head towards Route 60 (Pocahontas Trail). If you are in Williamsburg, take the Route 60 East exit. Drive for approximately 5 miles. Once you reach the intersection with Route 132, turn right. Continue on Route 132 for about 1 mile, then turn left onto John Tyler Highway (Route 5). After about 2 miles, look for signs indicating Free Black Settlement. It will be on your right, at the coordinates 37.3179° N, 76.7995° W. Parking is available on-site.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take the Williamsburg Area Transport (WAT) bus service. Board the bus heading towards the 'Pocahontas Trail' stop. After about 20 minutes, get off at the 'Route 60 & Route 132' stop. From there, you will need to walk approximately 1 mile to Free Black Settlement. Head south on Route 132, then turn left onto John Tyler Highway (Route 5). The settlement will be on your right. Note that you may need to check the WAT schedule for the latest bus timings.
Bicycle
For those opting to bike, you can start from Colonial Williamsburg and take the bike path along Route 60 East. After approximately 5 miles, turn onto Route 132, then left onto John Tyler Highway (Route 5). The trip will be about 8 miles total. Be sure to wear a helmet and follow local traffic laws. There are bike racks available at Free Black Settlement for secure parking.
