Turn left onto VA-600 and continue for approximately 5 miles. Look for the signs directing you to Houndshell Campground. The campground is located just off VA-600, and you will see a small access road leading to it. Keep in mind that this road may not be paved, so a vehicle with good clearance is recommended.

For those already in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area and looking for an adventurous option, you can hike to Houndshell Campground. Starting from the Grayson Highlands State Park, take the Appalachian Trail southbound. Follow the trail for approximately 5 miles until you reach the junction with the Houndshell Trail. Turn left onto Houndshell Trail, and the campground will be about 1 mile ahead. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks, as this trail can be challenging.
