From the center of Petersburg, head west towards N Sycamore St. Walk straight until you reach the intersection with E Bank St. Turn left onto E Bank St and continue walking until you reach the intersection with S Crater Rd. Cross over and continue straight onto Crater Rd. After approximately 1 mile, look for signs directing you to the Richmond area. Once you reach the junction with US-301 S, continue following the signs for Richmond. The James River Canal is located just off Riverside Dr in Richmond, VA. It should take about 1 hour and 15 minutes to walk there, so wear comfortable shoes and stay hydrated.

Public Transit
Start at the Petersburg Area Transit bus station located at 100 E Washington St. Take the Route 1 bus towards Richmond. Stay on the bus for about 30 minutes, and get off at the stop near the intersection of Broad St and 3rd St in Richmond. From there, transfer to Route 78 towards Southside Plaza. Ride for about 15 minutes and get off at the Riverside Dr stop. Walk a short distance towards the river, and you will find the James River Canal along Riverside Dr.
