Car
If you're traveling by car, start by navigating to Granite Falls, WA. From the center of Granite Falls, head northeast on N Granite Ave toward E Stanley St. Continue straight onto W Stanley St, which will take you onto the Mountain Loop Highway. Follow the Mountain Loop Highway for approximately 22 miles. Keep an eye out for signs for the Monte Cristo Trailhead, as you will need to turn onto the road leading to it. The Gothic Basin Trailhead is located near this area. Please note that the road may be rough and require a high-clearance vehicle, especially after adverse weather conditions.
Public Transportation
If you're using public transportation, take a Greyhound or similar bus service to Granite Falls, WA. Once in Granite Falls, you may need to utilize a rideshare service or taxi to reach the Mountain Loop Highway. Be aware that public transportation options may be limited, and it’s advisable to check local schedules in advance. Once at Mountain Loop Highway, follow the directions provided for car travel to reach Gothic Basin Trailhead.
Hiking
For those who choose to hike to the Gothic Basin Trailhead, ensure you are well-prepared with maps and gear. The trailhead begins at the Monte Cristo Trail, which is approximately 3 miles from the Mountain Loop Highway. Follow the Monte Cristo Trail, which leads you through beautiful forest scenery and eventually to the Gothic Basin. Be aware that this hike requires a moderate level of fitness and appropriate hiking gear.
