Walking
If you are starting near downtown La Crosse, make your way to the intersection of 3rd St S and Main St. Head west on Main St until you reach 4th St S. Turn left onto 4th St S and continue walking until you reach the Green Island Bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the path that leads you into Hixon Forest. The forest entrance will be on your right.
Biking
From downtown La Crosse, you can rent a bike from one of the local bike-sharing programs. Start at Riverside Park and take the La Crosse River State Trail, heading towards the north. This trail will lead you directly to Hixon Forest. Follow the signs for Hixon Forest, and you'll reach the entrance in approximately 20-30 minutes.
Public Transit
Take the La Crosse Transit System. Board Bus Route 8 towards Hixon Forest. The bus will take you close to the forest. Get off at the Hixon Forest stop. From there, it's a short 5-minute walk to the entrance of Hixon Forest. Look for signs directing you towards the trails.
