If you're starting from the heart of Powder River Basin, head northwest on State Highway 387 (WY-387) toward the town of Kaycee. After approximately 40 miles, merge onto I-25 N. Continue for about 60 miles until you reach the exit for US-14 W toward Cody. Follow US-14 W for approximately 50 miles until you reach Cody. Once in Cody, take a right onto Chief Joseph Highway (WY-296). Follow Chief Joseph Highway for about 15 miles to reach Dead Indian Summit Overlook. Look for parking areas along the roadside as you approach the overlook.

Public transportation options are limited in the Powder River Basin; however, you can take a Greyhound bus or a local shuttle service to Cody. Once in Cody, you can use a taxi or rideshare service to reach Chief Joseph Highway. After arriving in Cody, request a taxi to take you to Chief Joseph Highway (WY-296) and ask the driver to take you to Dead Indian Summit Overlook, located approximately 15 miles from the city center.
