Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the capital city of Lusaka. Head east on the Great East Road (A3) towards Chipata. After approximately 200 km, take the turnoff towards Chingola/Chingola Road (A1) and continue for about 120 km until you reach the town of Chingola. From Chingola, follow the signs to Kabwelume Falls, which is located about 35 km northwest in Chimpempe. The road can be rough in parts, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Be prepared for possible toll fees along the way.
Public Transportation
For those using public transport, start by taking a bus from Lusaka to Chingola. Buses frequently depart from the Intercity Bus Terminal. The journey will take approximately 4-6 hours depending on traffic. Once in Chingola, you can hire a local taxi or a motorcycle taxi (boda-boda) to take you to Kabwelume Falls. The distance from Chingola to Kabwelume Falls is about 35 km, and the fare for the taxi will typically range from ZMW 100-150. Ensure to negotiate the price beforehand.
Local Guides
If you prefer a guided experience, consider hiring a local guide once you reach Chingola. They can arrange transportation and provide insights about the area. Guides may charge fees starting from ZMW 300, which typically includes transportation and their services. This option is particularly useful if you are unfamiliar with the area or prefer not to navigate on your own.
