Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest town, Sumbawanga, Tanzania. Take the A104 road heading south towards the border with Zambia. Continue for about 40 kilometers until you reach the turn-off for Kalambo Falls. The road will be marked, but take care as it may not be well maintained. After turning off the A104, follow the dirt road for approximately 10 kilometers until you reach the parking area near Kalambo Falls. Make sure to have a map or GPS, as the area may not have clear signage.

  • Public Transport

    To reach Kalambo Falls via public transportation, you can take a bus from Sumbawanga to the town of Kalambo, which is approximately 30 kilometers away from the falls. The bus ride will cost you around 10,000 ZMW (Zambian Kwacha). Once you arrive in Kalambo, you can hire a local taxi or a motorcycle taxi (boda-boda) to take you to the falls for an additional cost of about 20,000 ZMW. Be sure to negotiate the fare beforehand.

  • Walking

    If you are already in the Kalambo area and prefer to walk, you can hike the last 5 kilometers to Kalambo Falls. The trail can be rugged and hilly, so proper footwear is recommended. Follow the signs leading to the falls; however, it may be beneficial to ask locals for directions if you're unsure. The hike will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace.
