Car
To reach Chiunga Hills from any location within Chimanimani National Park by car, start by heading towards the main park entrance. Follow the main road leading through the park, keeping an eye out for signposts indicating various hiking trails. Continue on this road for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach the turnoff for Chiunga Hills, which is located near the coordinates 6P27+2WR, Kubiko. Take the left turn and follow the dirt road for about 5 kilometers until you arrive at the Chiunga Hills hiking area. Be cautious, as the road can be rough in sections. Parking is available at the trailhead.
Public Transportation
If you are relying on public transportation, you will first need to take a shared minibus or taxi from Chimanimani town towards the park. These typically leave from the main taxi rank and operate regularly. Inform the driver that you wish to get off at the Chimanimani National Park entrance. From there, you will need to hire a local taxi or arrange for a guide to take you to Chiunga Hills, as public transport options are limited within the park. The taxi ride should cost around $10-15 USD and take about 20 minutes to reach the hiking area.
Hiking
For those already hiking in the park, you can make your way to Chiunga Hills via footpaths. Depending on your starting point, follow the established trails that connect various parks and attractions. The hike from the main park trails to Chiunga Hills can take between 2 to 3 hours, depending on your pace. Ensure you have adequate supplies, as this route is less frequented by tourists. Always carry a map or have a guide with you to navigate the trails effectively.
