If you are driving to Golden Pools, start from the town of Mutare. Head east on the A4 highway towards Honde Valley. After approximately 30 km, turn left onto the Bonda Road (R6) towards Honde Valley. Follow this road for about 20 km until you reach the Honde Valley area. Once in Honde Valley, look for signs indicating Golden Pools. The final destination is located at MR5G+32G, which should be accessible via a well-marked dirt road leading to the pools. Please ensure your vehicle is suitable for dirt roads, as the last segment may be less maintained. Parking is usually available near the entrance.
Public Transportation
To reach Golden Pools via public transport, take a bus from Mutare to Honde Valley. These buses usually depart from the main bus terminal in Mutare and the fare is approximately $2-3 USD. The journey takes about 1-1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Honde Valley, hire a local taxi or arrange for a motorcycle taxi (boda-boda) to take you to Golden Pools. The distance from the Honde Valley bus drop-off point to Golden Pools is about 10 km, and taxi fares can range from $5-10 USD depending on negotiation.
Walking
For those adventurous souls, if you are already within a few kilometers of Golden Pools (perhaps from a nearby lodge or accommodation), walking can be an option. Make sure to ask locals for directions to MR5G+32G, as they can provide the best routes. It is advisable to go with a group for safety and to carry sufficient water and snacks, as the area can be remote. The terrain can be uneven, so wear appropriate footwear.
