Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the town of Bindura, which is a central location in Mashonaland Central. Take the A5 highway heading northwest towards Harare. After about 30 km, look for the turnoff onto the B61 road towards Mt. Darwin. Follow the B61 for approximately 60 km until you reach the junction near the town of Mt. Darwin. At the junction, turn right onto the Rushinga Road and continue for another 20 km. You will notice signs directing you towards the Zambezi Escarpment. Follow these signs, and you will arrive at the Zambezi Escarpment entrance, which is located at coordinates -16.4168759, 30.7429369. Please note that you may need to pay a small entrance fee to access the nature preserve.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, start from Bindura bus terminal. You can catch a shared minibus (known locally as 'kombis') heading towards Mt. Darwin. The journey will take approximately 1-1.5 hours and should cost around $2-3 USD. Once you arrive in Mt. Darwin, you will need to take another minibus to Rushinga, which should cost about $1 USD and takes about 30 minutes. Inform the driver that you wish to disembark at the Zambezi Escarpment turnoff. After getting off, you may have to walk about 3 km towards the entrance. It is advisable to ask locals for directions to ensure you are headed the right way. Keep in mind the importance of checking the timings of public transport as they may vary throughout the day.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Bindura or Mt. Darwin. From Bindura, the taxi fare to the Zambezi Escarpment will be approximately $30-40 USD, depending on negotiation and vehicle type. From Mt. Darwin, the fare will be slightly lower at around $20-30 USD. This option will save you time and provide a more comfortable ride directly to the entrance of the Zambezi Escarpment.
