Getting There
-
Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey from Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe. Take the A5 highway heading east towards Mutare. After approximately 60 kilometers, look for the turn-off to the B61 road at the town of Marondera. Follow the B61 road for about 50 kilometers until you reach the junction with the Domboshava Road. Turn left onto the Domboshava Road and continue for another 20 kilometers until you reach the turn-off for Hippo Pools. Follow the signs directing you to the camp, which is located near the banks of the Save River. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for dirt roads, as some sections may be unpaved.
-
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, start your journey from Harare by boarding a bus heading to Mutare. Upon arrival at the Mutare bus terminal, look for a connecting minibus or shared taxi heading towards the Marondera area. Inform the driver that you wish to go to Hippo Pools Wilderness Camp. You may need to arrange for a private taxi from the drop-off point to the camp itself, as public transport may not take you directly to the lodge. Expect to pay for the minibus fare, usually around $5-10, and potentially an additional $15-25 for the taxi to the camp.
-
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi from Harare. This option is more expensive but convenient. The taxi ride from Harare to Hippo Pools Wilderness Camp will take approximately 2-3 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Be prepared to negotiate the fare, which could range from $60 to $100 depending on your negotiation skills and the taxi company's rates. Ensure that the taxi driver is familiar with the area and can take you directly to the camp.
