Kandy Lake, also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, is an artificial lake in the heart of the hill city of Kandy, Sri Lanka, built in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe next to the Temple of the Tooth. Over the years, it was reduced in size. It is a protected lake, with fishing banned. There are many legends and folklore regarding the lake. One such is that the small island at its center was used by the king’s helm for bathing and was connected to the palace by a secret tunnel.

The golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic a tooth of the Buddha. The Sea Turtle Farm and Hatchery is a non - profitable organization which is maintained for the survival of Sea Turtles for the next generation. The "Turtle Farm" is situated in Habaraduwa near to the beautiful beach. That is 5m from the Galle - Matara main road. The center was started in 1986 and have released more than 500,000 sea turtles to the ocean.

The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall is one of the foremost convention centers found on the island. Located in the Cinnamon Gardens region of Colombo, Bmich has over 16,000 square feet of floor space.Open to the public in the year 1998, this convention center is a gift from the people’s republic of China in memory of Sri Lanka’s late prime minister Solomon Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike. The construction of this convention center was carried out as a joint project between Sri Lankan and Chinese workforce. Bmich is managed by the Bandaranaike National Memorial Foundation (BNMF).

The Gangaramaya temple, Colombo is the most rich and famous in Sri Lanka. It was built just over 120 years ago and is dedicated to Buddhism. Among tourists, it is quite a popular place. It is a small religious complex with several buildings among which the Church, library, Museum, classrooms. The temple is mostly celebrated for its lavish architecture and statues showcasing Sri Lankan, Chinese, Thai, Burmese and many other artistic styles.  In the evenings, the pavilions are lit up with lights.

A bazaar with definite Middle Eastern flair, the Pettah is where Sri Lanka’s multi-culturalism is at its most pronounced. The bustling bazaar of pettah is one of the oldest districts in Colombo and one of the most interesting places to spend a few hours. It is the most ethnically mixed place in the country. The crowds in Pettah can become overwhelming during the morning and late-afternoon rush hours, but the streets are still thronged during most daylight hours.  Large religious buildings represent a plethora of faiths, while more earthly pursuits can be found in market stalls and shops selling seemingly everything.

The Fort of Colombo begins where the Galle Face Green ends, at the old parliament building, now used as the Presidential Secretariat, and where the Beira Lake spills into the Indian Ocean. Along the foreshore of the Fort area is the Galle Face Green Promenade, built in 1859 under the governance of Sir Henry George Ward, the Governor of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) during British colonial administration. The railway line was started over a 150 years ago by the British. At the time, the Central Terminus was in a place near Maradana, The location can still be seen as it is now serving as the Sri Lanka Railway Museum. In 1877 the Coastal Railway Line was created, and that is when the first Fort Station came into use. The old Fort region of Colombo is one of the busiest sections of the city. It’s also where some important government departments such as the Sri Lanka Customs Headquarters, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and the Merchant Shipping Department.

In the hustle and bustle of Pettah, Colombo’s core commercial district, is situated a most striking building, a spiritual haven called Jamiul Alfar Masjid. This mosque is remarkable because the architecture is Indo-Saracenic, incorporating pomegranate-shaped domes. But the most extraordinary feature is that each brick is painted red or white and used in contrasting designs, which gave rise to its common name, the Red Mosque.However, there seem to be a ban on Muslim women to visit the mosque due to religious restrictions. As there have been many who requested for a section for the women; there appears to be plans for such a section, where women can do their prayers, to be built in the future. Thogh the red mosque is an islamic religious facility, visitors from other religions are eagerly welcomed.

Established as the Colombo Museum in 1877, the Colombo National Museum is the main museum in the country. The architecture and design of the premises are dominated by features of Italian architecture and the museum spans across two floors with multiple viewing galleries on each floor.It is home to many valuable and historically important objects such as the throne and the crown of the Kandyan Monarchs.The atmosphere is usually quiet and calming, and you can explore and wander around the premises at your own pace. If you are in the city, even for a short visit, we recommend that you pay a visit, because there is so much to learn and discover.

The Colombo Lighthouse was initially constructed as a clock tower in 1856 and completed on the 25th of February 1857 and the tower was designed by the wife of Governor Sir Henry George Ward. The construction work was undertaken by the Public Works Department. It was supervised by the Director of Public Works himself; Mr John Flemming Churchill. The Colombo Lighthouse and Clock Tower in Sri Lanka is one such noteworthy architectural site.
