The Old Fort is the oldest building in Stone Town, originally built by the Portuguese as a coastal defense fort against their enemies. After the Portuguese were defeated, it was taken over and rebuilt by the Omani Arabs. Today, the fort houses local art shops, a café, and an open-air amphitheatre.
