    I really liked our tour guide who was a retired college professor. The movie was entertaining and the mock up school and home were very enlightening. I would advise you not to book on Sunday as we couldn’t do any of the stops, but that’s not the tour company’s fault.

    Overall, it was an interesting experience. We had a nice bus tour with an experienced guide, learning a lot about the Amish. However, we did not need a half hour stop at a place where we could buy Amish made goods or ice cream. They did have a playground for kids, and farm animals out back there, which was nice if you had kids with you. The movie was also interesting, about an Amish young man making the decision whether or not to stay with the community. But it did not tell at all about the practice of shunning when one leaves the community permanently. The tour of the replica of a one room school house and Amish home was also interesting. However, the tour guide (same guide for all three parts) left me with a very bad impression. I had privately asked why she had not mentioned any of the negatives of the Amish, and she said what negatives? I said that the Amish consider homosexuality to be an abomination. She said, “But it is.” Now that turned me off completely. A guide should never share their own personal beliefs like that. She could have said, “They are entitled to their own beliefs” or something like that. I was really shocked.

    The company has a medium tour bus that Bruce drove. He was our Host. He took us to a dairy farm, a buggy builder and a home maker. Each stop was very nice and gave us incredible insight to the lives and ways of the Amish.

    The Amish Experience

    The Amish Experience at Plain & Fancy Farm SuperSaver package includes three activities. At this time we ask that you wear a mask to participate in these activities. Amish Farmlands Tour: 90 minute guided Amish farmlands tour using our air-conditioned 14 passenger mini bus. A stop along the way for authentic Amish goods is included. Amish Experience Theater: 35 minute, five-screen, special-effect film called "Jacob's Choice." Follow a young Amish man as he decides whether or not to be Amish, and experience history through flash-backs in the film. Amish House and One-Room School: The Amish Country Homestead is a 45 minute guided walking tour of a replica Amish house and school on site at the Amish Experience.
