What to expect
Yedikule
After meeting, we will go to Yedikule area to see biggest part of the City Walls (by taxi or public transportation) and we will see The Golden Gate. Yedikule was always an importat gate and dungeons durin Ottoman period.
Silivrikapı
The Silivri Kapı, the next main gate to the north of the Belgrad Kapı, is situated between two polygonal gateway towers. This gate was renewed in the Late Byzantine period with irregular stones and brick rows placed in between.
Mevlanakapı
The Mevlevihane Kapı is the Rhesion Gate of the Byzantine period. The Greek inscription on the lintel, which refers to a 60-day repair, has been copied in Anthologia Palatina and annotated as “an inscription of the Rhesion Gate.” Byzantine sources also mention names such as Polyandrion/Myriandrion (Many Men/Thousand Men). These probably refer to the tombs in the vicinity. The bridge of the moat dates to the Ottoman period.
Formerly Church of St. Saviour in Chora is renowned worldwide for its well-preserved mosaics and frescoes. It presents important and beautiful examples of East Roman painting in its last period. The idea of depth in mosaics and the moving style in figures are of outstanding artistic significance in the Middle Ages, foretelling the Renaissance period.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
