What to expect
The Royal Palace in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, is the country's main royal palace and the official residence of the Moroccan royal family.
Hay Riad
In Rabat, the modern part of the city is mainly located in the Hay Riad district, known for its business buildings, government offices and luxury residences. It is a dynamic area with shopping malls, cafes, restaurants and wide avenues.
Bouregreg Marina
The area around the Bouregreg River offers a unique blend of history and modernity. On the Rabat side, the Marina offers promenades, restaurants, and views of the Salé medina. The Hassan II Bridge connects the two cities, near monuments like the Hassan Tower. The Salé side is more traditional, with its medina, but modern projects like the Grand Théâtre de Rabat and the Wessal Bouregreg project bring a contemporary touch to this rapidly developing area.
The Hassan Tower in Rabat is an unfinished minaret dating from the 12th century, intended by Sultan Yacoub al-Mansour to be the largest mosque in the world. Standing 44 metres tall, although it was intended to be 80 metres, the tower is built of red stone and overlooks the city and the Bouregreg River. Around the tower are the remains of the mosque's columns.
The Mohammed V Mausoleum in Rabat is a majestic monument, built in white marble and decorated with zelliges and carved woodwork. Inaugurated in 1971, it houses the tombs of King Mohammed V and his sons, King Hassan II and Prince Moulay Abdallah. Located opposite the Hassan Tower, this sacred place reflects the respect Moroccans have for their monarchy. The green tiled roof, the symbolic color of Islam, contrasts with the bright whiteness of the building, creating a harmonious and soothing ensemble. It is one of the most visited and respected sites in Morocco.
Medina of Rabat
The medina of Rabat is a historical gem, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can discover picturesque alleys and authentic crafts. You will explore its lively markets, traditional souks, and weavers' and artisans' workshops. The white-walled houses and colorful doors give a unique charm to this walk, which will transport you to the vibrant heart of Moroccan local life. It is a perfect place to immerse yourself in the history and culture of the city.
Kasbah des Oudaias
The Kasbah of the Oudayas is an ancient fortress located at the mouth of the Bouregreg River in Rabat. Built in the 12th century by the Almohad dynasty, it offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the city of Salé. Inside, you will discover peaceful alleys with white and blue houses, a beautiful Andalusian garden, and the famous Café Maure where you can enjoy a mint tea facing the river. The kasbah is a place full of history and charm, perfect for a quiet stroll in a picturesque setting.
Av. Fal Ould Oumeir
Agdal district, one of the most dynamic and modern in the city. Agdal is known for its wide tree-lined avenues, elegant boutiques, trendy cafes and restaurants. As you walk through its lively streets, you will see a mix of residents, students and professionals enjoying this urban atmosphere. You will pass by modern buildings, embassies and shopping malls, perfectly illustrating the energy and evolution of this popular district of Rabat. A great place to feel the modernity of the city.
