We had 2 issues; firstly the booking and secondly the actual tour guide. Miscommunication resulted in mid selling a tour that was only ever delivered in Spanish which resulted in far less value than expected and wasted our time. This was exacerbated by a truly poor tour guide called Gladys. After the first 20mins on a coach all the dialogue was in Spanish so when we stopped we spoke to Gladys who had as much English skills as I had Spanish. To summarise and with the help of her colleague and Google translate she said if we didn’t want to continue we needed to make our way home at our own expense. Really is this the way to treat tourists in a city that has security issues. We therefore decided to stay and try to make the most of it. After leaving the group to wander for 20mins she then led the group to the metro where she delivered a short metro security awareness chat - we were unaware as it was not in English until another client translated for us. She then nearly lost half the group on the metro when she failed to get us all on including herself into one train. After the metro we went on the cable car. From there she handed over to a local guide for the tour of area 19 in the barrio. As security was again an issue here she was supposed to be at the back of the group whilst the local guide was at the front leading. This didn’t happen. On the way back to the city for lunch she was collecting payment and I wished to speak to her manager and the hotel to sort out our situation and be offered some sort of compensation- the upshot was if you don’t pay get off the coach now and your tour booking for the next day be cancelled. Again is this the way you treat customers when Maxitours is at fault. In summary, double check what you book is what you get and with luck you won’t get Gladys as the guide. BTW the next days tour to Guatape delivered by Nelson was excellent - both Nelson and the tour itself

Did the city tour + grafitti tour. The day started at 8am (pick up at El Poblado) with a long 1hr ride to pick up 39 people (too big and some very rude and annoying), that felt like a school bus ride. Forst stop was Plaza Botero which felt very dodgy and unsafe (take care of your belongings and the people around you). Then they took us to two city parks that didn't have much to see, the highligjt was the bathrooms available. Next stop pueblito paisa (it was ok). Then lunch (about 1 hr, food was good). Next stop was the comuna 13 tour (took about 2.5 hours). It was unecessarily long and not much information provided (around 5 mins, same as the rest of the day, and only saw 2 graffiti), there were 5 stops to see shows (hip hop/rap dance, ice cream, gallery, markets) when the guide kept insisting we left money/bought something. It was conpletely far from expected, as we were hoping to hear more about the history of the comuna and its transformation, but instead wento into this long bizarre market/show. Finally, they took us to the metro and cable car (best part of the tour). Ended up taking an uber back to the hostel as the school bus was starting the way back at almost 5pm (9 hours and still going). Really not recommended.

Where to start. Firstly, it is barely bilingual despite us confirming over WhatsApp the night before - they said Spanish “and English”. If you are relying on English you’ll get a 20% max quick summary of what the Spanish section is. Second, it’s a big group. And as with big groups there’s always a few who seem incapable of keeping time… making the whole group late. Thirdly, the sights… more explanation would help, but they didn’t really impress. You get a trip on the cable cars, literally one stop, off, quick photo opportunity and then straight back down (we were all a bit confused at this point, it wasn’t really explained before… or maybe it was, in Spanish!). The one stop we were particularly keen on was Comuna 13. Now again, barely any translation was given of what I am sure was a very interesting account of the areas history and graffiti. We were rushed through, we stopped once to take a photo and lost the tour…. It took us 15 minutes to find other equally lost tour companions, and eventually the guide. It was meant to finish at 5, but finished 3:30… it took over an hour to drop everyone off at their hotels so technically we were back at 5… I guess. Basically it’s a tick box and money-grabbing exercise. Most stops you can do yourself, especially Comuna 13. (I must emphasise that there were some equally disappointed English speakers on the tour, not just us)

I must say that I went with a little mistrust because I hired the web tour without having left a sign or payment in advance, but the truth went all excellent. Super punctual, good communication and the tour was very varied and complete. I recommend it.

    Parques del Rio

The Medellín River has been one of the main sources of development in the city. Not in vain, the first Metro line was built following that flow that crosses the entire Metropolitan Area and creating a harmonious relationship between the region and its tributary. This is just one example of a territorial planning model that has been consolidated for 60 years and that allows the planning and integrated growth of the territory to be coordinated while respecting the river.
