Key Largo Coral Reef Half Day Snorkel Trip

Captain Brad and first mate Brandon were great. Knowledgeable, funny and outgoing. We went two different reefs and it was amazing. I would definitely book the tour again.

The reef / water/ crew all made up a fantastic snorkeling adventure. Easy to book and very informative crew members .

The trip was great! Captain Kate and H were fun, informative, and entertaining. We felt very safe the entire time. The equipment was good (mask, fins, and life vest) and the boat was well maintained. There is a large shade area on the boat along with a dry box and ice water. We visited two different spots and saw a ton of wildlife at both. Would 100% recommend!

I received a call from Pirates Cove a few days before the scheduled trip. An employee of Pirates Cove informed us Tripadvisor allowed us to book a trip that was closed due to being sold out. Pirates Cove was willing to accommodate my wife and I on a different boat for the same day and time, only a change in location that was less than 10 minutes away. No problem there. When we arrived, I realized the new trip was scuba and snorkeling together, which I booked the original trying to avoid that dynamic. However, my wife and I were extremely interested in snorkeling on the reef, so we checked in and prepared as usual. As we were waiting more scuba divers showed up. I would estimate between 15-20 scuba divers, in addition to 10-12 snorkelers. As they loaded up all the scuba divers, they called all the snorkelers to the side and here begins the problem. They start the hard sell of repeatedly telling us there are 3' and bigger waves, low visibility, they are seeing Jellyfish all over, and if it were their family they would reschedule or cancel. In the end we canceled because we had nothing else planned to do for 4 hours in Key Largo before the next trip. My wife and I decided to drive to John Pennekamp State Park, figuring if we cannot snorkel, we will at least enjoy the Park and see what we can since it was only 5 minutes away. . Once we arrive, I see the park is offering a Snorkeling tour to the reef in 45 minutes time. Close to the same time our original tour would be out there. I questioned the staff member at Pennekamp State Park about the conditions, and in turn he inquired where I got my information. I told him about our canceled trip with Pirates Cove. In turn the staff member at Pennekamp starts showing us pictures of a current tour out there and calls it near perfect conditions. We booked a trip and had an amazing time. Great visibility, nothing that could be considered a wave, saw one quarter sized jellyfish between the two of us. Enjoyed snorkeling on the reef and made our trip to the keys worthwhile as that was my #1 reason for the trip. However, that made my wife, and I conclude that we were lied to by Pirates Cove Watersports intentionally or not. They prioritized the scuba divers for reasons I am sure most can figure and attempted to ruin snorkelers’ trips. No matter the reason, the fact is they either lied about the conditions or are not knowledgeable enough to be considered dependable. I will never deal with Pirates Cover again and caution others to be careful.

One of my all time favorite trips!!! The crew was great, nice people, always engaging in conversations with everyone, definitely worth it. BUT best part was seeing a 5ft shark and I just kept swimming after it with no care 🤣 amazing experience!!! We will be back
