Magical Benagil Cave Cruise

These caves are magnificient! Had a great time seeing these amazing caves and the coast line. Both the boat driver and the tour guide did a great job. We also got to see some dolphins!

Really fantastic trip! Let me start by saying if you’re the kind of person that’s horrified by visiting ‘touristy’ destinations, then this maybe isn’t the trip for you. There’s lots of various sizes of boat doing this trip as well as the dozens of kayaks at the actual Benagil caves. So if this sounds like you then I would advise you to get over yourself and just go. Watching it on YouTube is a poor second to actually seeing it with eyes, even when there are at least 200 additional pairs of eyes in the local vicinity. Anyway…we left from Portimao and were able to meet the boat at the pier as we are staying nearby, however I understand they will collect you if you’re in another resort. We had around 10 people on our boat and a couple of passengers were elderly with walking aids, this was absolutely no problem for the guides as they helped everyone get on board safely. Different guides speak different languages so I’m sure they will be able to accommodate you wherever you are from. We didn’t admit to being British as we want to brush up on our Portuguese and I’m almost surprised to report we understood most of the chat! Of course the captain spoke excellent English anyway, had we any questions. We headed round to the caves (with a quick swing by Ferragudo) and spent over an hour pottering around the many caves before finishing at Benagil which, as previously alluded to, was completely heaving with various boats, kayaks and paddle boards. HOWEVER, and it’s (literally) a big however, this was really the only cave that was very busy, there were so many other beautiful caves we saw on the way. Also, it really is much better seeing it in real life than it is seeing a second hand picture or video. It’s absolutely beautiful. Finally a note on the boat, go with these guys as they have absolutely the best size boat to do this trip in. The catamarans you will pass are slowly gliding along, the kayaks are full of red faced people self propelling themselves. These guys are in smallish boats/ribs with big engines so although you might potter around the caves whilst there, they will let rip on the way back to Portimao, so hang on tight! Bonus - we saw a pod of bottle nosed dolphin on the way back. Absolutely recommend, thanks!

A truly magical and unforgettable experience! Starting from the beginning, the booking experience was seamless - great instructions on how to book, directions on where to go and incredible price for the experience. Check-in and arrival process was easy as I was welcomed by lovely team members. The boat is small which allows for more of an intimate and personal experience and the staff provided great information/facts along the journey. The boat being small had great advantage over other boats as we were able to sweep in and out of caves easily, allowing us to see some magical spots. Along the trip we saw birds and were blessed in seeing a group of dolphins! The crew made a generous stop for us to watch the dolphins swim. This was truly an unforgettable experience, I would recommend!!
