What to expect
Sintra Municipality
Discover Sintra, the capital of romanticism in Portugal! This charming villa has a history dating back to the 12th century, when it was refounded by the first king of Portugal, Afonso Henriques. We will start our walk from the Train Station, passing the old palace of the Counts Ferreira, now the City Hall building. Then we will proceed along "A Volta do Duche", a road to the historic center that offers various surprises, such as sculptures, local trade, and the centuries-old Fuente Mourisca. We will visit the famous pastry shop "Piriquita" to delight in its delicious "travesseiros". We will also enjoy the complains, the oldest sweet in the villa, in a local factory. We will stroll the labyrinthine streets, exploring iconic shops of spirits, ceramics, jewelry and gastronomy. Finally, we will visit the church of "São Martinho", where we can enjoy the view of the mountain from its viewpoint. Live the magic of Sintra!
Palácio e Parque Biester
At Biester Palace, we will begin our visit by exploring the Library and the Main Hall, followed by the music room and rooms adorned with Templar symbols. In addition, we will have access to the Templar Initiative Chamber and the Chapel. In the palace and its gardens, we find resting places and fountains decorated with tiles by the celebrated ceramicist Bordalo Pinheiro. Then we will explore the stunning gardens, which are home to species of trees, plants and shrubs from five continents. Afterwards, we can enjoy a coffee accompanied by a traditional sweet in the greenhouse, surrounded by a collection of orchids and lotus flowers. Finally, we will visit the panoramic viewpoint that offers spectacular views, including the Villa of Sintra, the Palacio da Pena, the Castle of the Moors, the Atlantic Ocean and the Sierra de Sintra, recognized by UNESCO in 1995 in the category of landscape and architectural heritage.
We will discover the impressive National Palace of Sintra, an ancient cathedral of the 10th century, later converted into a summer residence of the Portuguese monarchy. This palace is considered the best preserved medieval residence in Portugal and is a real attraction for visitors due to its unique architecture, which combines Moorish, Gothic, Renaissance and Manueline styles, influenced by King Manuel I. Inside, we will explore fascinating rooms such as that of the Archers, that of the Swans, the Golden Chamber, and the room of Peter IV and Maria Pia of Savoy. In addition, the Hall of Shields shows us the emblems of 72 founding families in Portugal. We cannot fail to visit the bathroom grotto, which exhibits 16th century tiles, and stroll through its beautiful gardens. At the end, we will pass the palace shop, where you can find unique memories of this experience. Come and immerse yourself in more than 1,000 years of Portuguese history!
