always wanted to visit Tikal and it did not disappoint. the beauty of the park with its trails thru the jungle is amazing as is the abundant wildlife and birds.the ruins are so incredible that they will surpass your expectations as it did ours. you need about 3 days to really see it all with an experienced guide. a must on anyones bucket list.

The weather was adverse in this beautiful visit that we all wanted: it was raining all day, but this did not mar the enjoyment of so much beauty. The site is stunning, surrounded by jungle. We were lucky to have a specialized guide who gave us a fairly complete tour of the various temples and magical and lost places. The most risky dared to climb to Temple IV, the highest, and, although the fog did not allow us to contemplate the beauty of the landscape, it was worth it. We finished the visit comento in the restaurant "El Meson", inside the archaeological park, which had free wifi service. We were surprised by the menu offered: spring spaghetti, with vegetables, or spaghetti al pesto, to finish with a small piece of banana cake. We left there overwhelmed by the achievements of Mayan culture.

The ruins were so interesting, and the wildlife was incredible! The howler monkeys were especially amazing. The bird-watching was great too. I didn't do a sunrise visit, but others in my group did and it sounds like it was a really magical experience. I was on a 10-day tour of Guatemala and Belize, and nearly everyone in my group said that Tikal was their main highlight of the trip.

Separately I already made my contribution about the company I hired for a private tour to Tikal from Guatemala City (Tikal Go). Now I refer to the archaeological complex itself: we loved it, it exceeded our expectations. Although we had seen the NatGeo documentary, in situ it is even more surprising, as it is very extensive and what has been discovered is in good condition of restoration. It has its own seal because although there is some Teotihuacan style pyramid, its most famous temples around the Grand Plaza are unmistakable, with its steepest access staircase and its back to lead. You can still climb 3 pyramids (by effort economy, we climb only to the Temple of Masks and Temple IV), by scaffolding and stairs that do not ruin the stone of the temples. Tremendous view from Temple IV, pure jungle with just 5 structures protruding from it. On the edge of the square there is also an immense figurehead of what was a previous temple at ground level, in addition to many other structures. From yapa you can see howler monkeys, toucans, peccaries, capybaras, magpies, capuchin monkeys, large grasshoppers, etc. Do not be angry Guatemalans or Mexicans, but Tikal is just one step down from Chichen Itza (with its big ball court and sacred cenote!), keep in mind that I say it only as Traveler without being aware of Mayan culture (so it can be a big archaeological mistake). I just add that we are left wanting to sleep one night in one of the hotels in the park for lack of time and climb to Temple IV at dawn. It must be amazing (as it was when we did that in Machu Picchu). I reiterate, we loved it, highly recommended.
