An unforgettable experience with Enzo and the friendly team at Monte Poro Masseria. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Calabria. We enjoyed finding out about the local area, the farm and how it operates. Enzo is professional, friendly and passionate about his local area and it’s traditions; keen to share it with his guests and give them the most authentic and enjoyable experience possible. We loved making the local pasta; chatting to Enzo as we did so and enjoying the stunning views around us. The food was delicious- the ricotta the best I have ever tasted.
We were touring around Calabria so it was really helpful to chat with Enzo about our plans. He was so keen to ensure we had the best trip possible and went above and beyond the actual food experience, sending us a list of really helpful suggestions and links for the rest of our trip.

Wow — what a day!! My partner and I spent a glorious day with Enzo traveling through Calabria. He was the perfect Italian guide - informative, fun, authentic and patient. We felt like we were traveling with an old friend.
He is a proud Tropean and expert historian of “his” Calabria region. He spoke perfect English and spent the day answering our questions and explaining all aspects of Italian life. He took us on a tour of the beautiful Carida farm where we made ricotta cheese and pasta along side the local farmers. We picked figs, olives and walnuts directly from their trees while Enzo explained the history of farming in the Calabria region.
We shared a traditional and delicious Calabrian meal with Enzo which was, in my opinion, one of the highlights of our vacation. We spent time talking/dining with the owner of the farm and even shared our family photos. Enzo served as the perfect interpreter throughout our conversation.
Enzo took us to a local Olive Oil processing facility where we learned how to grow olives and produce olive oil. We also had a olive oil tasting, and were able to purchase Calabrian olive oil to take home to our friends and family.
It was a “perfecto” day!

We did the Sweet and Spicy tour with Enzo and it was fantastic. After picking us up at our hotel, we arrived at a family run Tropea sweet onion farm where Pasquale gave us a tour of the farm and facilities educating us about the history, farming and harvesting of Tropea's famous sweet onion. His wife Patrizia prepared a full spread of all the products made using the sweet onion - delicious - hard to pick a favorite! We visited her later that evening at her shop in town to make some purchases - see separate review of La Boutique Della Cipolla Rossa.
Enzo then took us to a scenic park overlooking Capo Vaticano before bringing us to Livasi' Salumi for the spicy part of out tour. This establishment is run by the Porcelli family and produces Spilinga's famous spicy N'duja, among other meat products. The manager of the facility, Antonio, took us through the facility from the time the pork comes in to the packaging of the finished product ending with another generous spread that allowed us to sample all their products and even offered house wine - we visited the Livasi' retail store on town later than evening as well - see separate review.
Enzo was amazing - in addition to the side trip to Capo Vaticano, he also took us to the church of the Madonna della Fontana and treated us to gelato at Dominique, where his friend Antea makes all the fresh gelato daily in a variety of delicious flavors!
Enzo was amazing and I would highly recommend his tours!!!

We have done many of these in Italy over the years, and this was truly the best Farm to Table ever! The drive out to the farm, with a stop to overlook Capo Vaticano, was beautiful and those views are spectacular! We really enjoyed our time with Enzo, being a local Tropean, but having spent time in Australia, his insight was super interesting and just very relaxed and fun to be with! This is not a cooking class (which we were fine with) just making pasta and ricotta filling for the manicotti. First we had a tour of the charming farm with more beautiful mountain views, then learned about their specialties - making pecorino and ricotta from their small herd of 200 sheep, and growing much of their produce. But sitting down to the most amazing antipasto plate of all - their home grown and made food - from fresh ricotta to njuda to marinated eggplant, zucchini, I can't remember name of chicory type vegetable, but it was so delicious, that delicious Tropean salad of tomatoes & their incredible sweet red onions, to two kinds of Pecorino, sausages, frittata, and wowza zeppele (sp?), home made Malvasa wine, and that setting, enjoying a meal with Enzo, was just fabulous. Our pasta came out next - we were a big heavy handed with the dough lol, so not the finest of pasta, but they made it much better with their incredible sauce, then teeny perfect manicotti, and finally, amara de Capo & local amaro (much better) to help to try to digest it all. Lovely drive home and went to bed VERY full and VERY happy! Thanks for everything, Enzo - it truly was an incredible, memorable and delicious evening with you!

We are a family of three (including our 6-year old son) from the Netherlands and we were joined by an Australian couple on their honeymoon for this all-day experience that we all thoroughly enjoyed! Our guide Enzo made it all very relaxed, though educational!
We appreciated his friendliness and sense of humor, Enzo made sure that communication was flowing and were were chatting about everything that was of ineterst to us. The cheese-making expereince took place on the premises of a real business and our son is still talking about how great it was to see everything and do it first-hand. The pasta-making workshop was good fun and also a great introduction of the traditional local pasta variety that was later cooked for our lunch. The lunch itself was plentiful, with all sorts of local produce, mainly coming from the farm to include meat cuts, pecorino, ricotta, veggies, etc. I honestly had to skip dinner that day, as I was absolutelty full after that! We also stopped a couple of times to admire the most breathtaking views of Tropea and surroundings.
All in all, it was a fantastic day and I also want to thank the owners of the farm for their warm hospitality.
I recommend this experience to everyone who is interested to learn more about Calabria and the way of living there and Enzo is sure to customise that experience to your wishes and needs!

Utflykten var planerad att ta fyra timmar. Men det blev nästan det dubbla. Men det gör ingenting, för vi hade trevligt nästan hela tiden. Trevligt att få delta i både ost- och pastatillverkning. Också väldigt trevlig lunch tillsammans med nyfunna vänner från USA resp Australien. Tack till vår utmärkte guide Vincenzo, mille grazie. You´re an excellent guide and car driver. Önskar att alla körde bil lika omdömesfullt som Du (vilket verkligen inte alla gör) och som saktade ned ordentligt i kurvorna på de slingriga vägarna nedför bergen.
Det enda som gör att inte utflykten får högsta betyg är den bedrövelse vi kände av att se djurhållningen - stackars får och grisar som såg stressade, sjuka och olyckliga ut i vidriga bås. Men det var egentligen också en ganska nyttig erfarenhet att se.

Fantastic hands on cheese making and pasta cooking class. Farm tour included, you literally see the produce from paddock to plate, being a part of the process, then you get to sit and enjoy the delicious products all made from ingredients coming directly from the farm or within the district.
