Footsteps of the Forsaken Frights: Fort Myers Ghost Tour

Nate was such a great tour guide. Had a fun historic experience! There was a boat show which blocked some of the sites but he did a great job working around it!

This was an absolutely perfect time to do a ghost tour (around Halloween)! Just felt very… festive. Secondly, my husband and I used this as an opportunity for a date night. This was a nice addition to our night, and we learned about A LOT of history for the area we have both lived in for so long. Our tour guide Nate was VERY personable, and friendly. He got started right on time, and gave some insight as to ghostly spottings, stories, history and more. I would recommend! Definitely try to park near Ford’s Garage so when your tour is complete you get to vehicle easily, and the description says to meet near a dance fire statue, it is RIGHT in front of the children’s playground at Centennial Park just for all of us locals who weren’t familiar with the name of the statue that is set for the current meetup. Perhaps bring comfortable shoes, maybe a little drink and light snack to further enjoy on the mile walk! Otherwise the weather was gorgeous last night. Truly one of those things you can check off of your to do list!

So, a group of us thought it would be fun to take this tour. We booked, we got to the meeting point a couple minutes early and THAT is when things started to get spooky. The meeting point was a park that was fenced off next to a parking lot (Joe's Crab Shack) with no lighting. Spooky parking lot, spooky park and NOBODY around (unless they were ghosts) - also spooky. We figured we might be in the wrong spot. So, at exactly 8pm (the agreed upon meetup time) we called the purveyor. They put us on hold, then we got disconnected (hung up on? Spooky). We tried again, this time the representative said they gave our number to the tour guide who would call us. So, we proceeded to conduct a seance over our colleague's phone in hopes of a contact from beyond. The minutes ticked away. No contact. Spooky. We waited 20 minutes. No contact. Still in an unlit parking lot on a quiet street with only a man and two dogs walking by (or were they? Hell hounds?). Florida is flat, we could see probably half a mile in every direction. No tour group at any point - certainly not a tour guide with a lantern (as pictured in the tour collateral). So, we proceeded into the River District (where we expected the tour would head in any case). No contact, but we did find a lovey (not spooky) bar in an Alpine theme - complete with ski lift? Having stopped for a drink or two, we ended our evening and proceeded to the office the next morning. We all requested refunds. We figured. Easy, the guide did not show or call. We were all denied. We were told we did not show up on time and the tour left without us. Unlikely as we were early, we called at exactly the time of the tour, and we saw nobody. We tried again, were asked for more "proof." We submitted it. The first who asked for a refund got one. The other two individuals were consistently denied. That's cool, I like to be accused of lying and God knows a $32 refund is worth a ton of time. Maybe that is the point? People just assume they messed up or don't want to put in the effort. Good racket if you can get it. So, we are out $32 each (or $64 total). Not the end of the world and it made for a good story. We can no say "We got Ghosted by the ghost tour!" So, thank you for a fun story. As for your scamtastic business practices. That I cannot support and will no longer use Viator or TripAdvisor. It is a matter of principle.

SCAM!!! Do NOT waste your money. We were 5 minutes early to the meeting location (it was correct, I confirmed) and our guide was not there. You could see down each street clearly and there was no guide or group anywhere. I called at 8pm on the dot to tell the company that our guide wasn’t here and they put me on hold. The first person hung up on me. The second agent told me they gave my number to the guide and he would contact me. No call or text. We waited an additional 20 minutes before leaving the location. They are refusing to give my colleagues a refund because “it’s our responsibility to be at the correct location on time.” Again, we were there and we were early. The meeting location is at a fenced off lot with dumpsters by Joe’s Crab Shack (which was an immediate red flag). We walked all around the lot and didn’t see anyone. The tour company is refusing to admit they didn’t show. They said they already started the tour with other people. If I’m calling you at 8pm from the correct meeting location and there was no one in sight anywhere, the guide obviously started too early or just wasn’t there. I highly doubt there was any tour given that night as they said. There was NO group in sight at 7:55pm. I called at 8 to report the issue once we realized there was no guide around and he wasn’t running late, he just wasn’t going to show. He had our numbers and made no attempt to correct the situation. My colleagues wasted their money and I’m so embarrassed they wasted their time and money on a scam. I’m very disappointed in Trip Advisor/Viator for partnering with this company. I won’t be using them again in the future.
