We will walk through the beautiful streets of old Quito, and visit the street of the 7 Crosses, where the most important churches of the city are located. We will take a walk through the church of San Francisco, also the church of the Compañia de Jesus, we will visit the Plaza Grande, where the Government Palace is located, and finally the Arsobispal Palace, which has authentic restaurants, where if you like you can have your lunch here.
The Basilica is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and its construction was supervised by the French architect, Emilio Tarlier, with the intention that it be designed in a manner similar to the famous Notre Dame de Paris and the Cathedral of Burgos in Spain. The Basilica is 140 meters long and its two towers reach a height of 115 meters, making it the tallest neo-Gothic church in South America. It contains 24 side chapels dedicated to the provinces of Ecuador. Like many Gothic churches of this size, the Basilica is designed in the form of a Latin cross, with the central nave functioning as the body of the structure. There are seven access doors, three on the facades and four on the sides. It has a subway crypt and an austere pantheon where the remains of several presidents of the republic rest.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
