    We had a really good day when we visited this Tea Farm. The guides were very friendly and it was interesting to learn about tea picking and processing. We went for a short walk to the tea field where we picked our own tea, which we helped process on our return to the farm. At the end of the trip, we all got small bags that contained the tea that we had picked earlier. A fun souvenir to bring back home with us. After processing the tea, we had a tea tasting. The guides explained the details about the different types of tea and how it should be prepared. The surroundings were just beautiful. On the walk to the waterfall we walked between the tea fields, passed huge bamboo plants and otherwise just beautiful forest. Upon returning from the waterfall, the food was ready for us. We didn’t know what to expect regarding the food, but we were positively surprised. We had a 3-course meal, water and homemade iced tea. All courses contained tea, and it all tasted really well! I think this trip was great value for money – even if you are not a tea drinker. If you are a little interested in the history of Kenya and to see a very small glimpse of how some of the people in Kenya live and work, I would recommend this trip. We had our own driver bring us to the farm, so I can’t review the part of the trip that involves the pick up in Nairobi.

    I went to Gatura Greens for a tour due to the interest of the others in my group, more than out of my own quest to learn about tea. I am a coffee drinker. So it is particularly high praise that I can recommend this tour to anyone with even the most casual interest in the this popular beverage, or in agricultural and cultural touring. The staff did a great job educating us on a variety of different teas, the differences, the origins and the history of tea drinking in Kenya and beyond. It was fun to taste so many different teas and to learn which was my favorite. Then we took a short walk up the road to experience tea leaf picking ourselves. We were taught what to look for in order to pick the right tea leaves that were ready from the plants that grew so densely that hand picking is really the only way! Next we went back to process the very tea leaves we had picked, all by hand. While we were served a great lunch on their pretty patio, the very tea we'd picked/processed was packaged for us bring home. We also enjoyed a pleasant walk to the waterfall nearby. I highly recommend this tour whether you are a tea fan or not. Also, it is a very beautiful farm, with hills and valleys, a bamboo forest, a river, waterfall into a pool.
