Disappointed overall. 1. Very expensive for what it was compared to many other tours of similar duration and numbers in Rome 2. Despite high cost did not include fee for Jewish museum entry- again should have been included 3. Tour should have ended at the museum so we could have stayed there

Michelle was an incredible tour guide. While being extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Roman Jews, Michelle gave that history depth (and quite literally brought it to life) with her own personal stories from her own Roman Jewish ancestry. This tour is an absolute MUST!

I 100% recommend the Jewish Roma tour with Michaela! This tour was truly the highlight of my visit to Rome... Michaela was engaging, interesting, and insightful… and her energy and humor created the perfect delivery for some very somber topics. She is a stellar guide who not only knows the facts, but understands the experience of life in the Roman Jewish Ghetto over time and conveys it all through true and heartfelt stories. My sister and I had the pleasure of taking part in the Jewish Roma tour led by the deeply knowledgeable, delightfully witty, and excitingly dynamic Michaela! I just realized the review I wrote while in Italy never saved and we still talk about how fantastic the tour was today, so I wanted to be sure to add this review. You will not find a better tour of Rome's Jewish Ghetto, Synagogue, or Jewish Museum than Jewish Roma! Why? Because Michaela is not just an expert in the architecture, culture, and history; she and her family ARE the past, present, and future of Roman Jews! While waiting for the tour group to gather, residents of the area and passersby would stop to kibbitz with Michaela and she would introduce each to the group--explaining their role in the community and their family's history as it relates to Roman Jewry. We started in the Jewish Museum located in the basement of the synagogue where she explained how the Roman ghetto forced Jews from multiple backgrounds into one building, but there were actually multiple spaces for different sects to practice Judaism in accordance with their own faith and traditions. We then went through the museum where Michaela related both the history and significance of key artifacts--enlightening the tour group to the struggles and triumphs of Jews throughout Europe. Then we went up to the main house of worship where Michaela explained even more history and culture as she highlighted the stunning architecture and artifacts one can only see in a Jewish community with such deep roots. Here her knowledge and personal experience coupled with her Jewish-mom sense of humor brought to life hundreds of years of Roman Jewish tradition and faith. The next part of the tour took us through the ghetto streets where Michaela explained how and why the building reflected the experiences of the ghettoed community as it related to Rome, the Vatican, and Europe at large. She pointed out obvious spots--like the Catholic churches built directly outside the ghetto walls plastered with Hebrew bible passages in hopes of gaining converts--and less conspicuous sights--like bayonet holes in wooden doors from the Nazis rounding up Jews during the Holocaust. Michaela beautifully connected the past to the present and excitedly introduced the tour group into the lively hustle and bustle of the Roman Jewish community of today. Though the group was from all over the world, Michaela had us all feeling like family from the start! Many of us stayed to have lunch at one of the Kosher restaurants in the area followed by dessert from the Jewish Ghetto bakery (which doesn't have a sign, but Michaela made sure we were in-the-know)! This is a must-do activity for all when in Rome and I fully intend on bringing my children back for the tour in the near future!

Michale was AN AMAZING tour guide with such a depth of knowledge of the history, geography, culture and stories of the Jewish quarter! She was dynamic, engaging and was able to give such life and depth throughout Our tour. She even recognized and shared with us the story of 93 year old survivor who happened to be passing us in the streets! One of the highlights of our whole vacation!

My family took several tours while in Rome and this one was by far the best (for me and my teens, who are not easy to please!). Micaela was knowledgeable, engaging and made the tour fun. Totally worth the money, would highly recommend.

My favorite tour in Italy. Michaela is an incredible tour guide because she is so passionate about the subject and the area. As a native Roman, you can just feel the pride and love she has for her hometown. The Roman Jewish Ghetto has a very interesting history and the tour is very much worth your time.

Micaela was a delightful guide. Her personal insights, as a proud Roman Jew, added to a very special tour. We also did the Jewish Catacombs tour with Micaela, which was just amazing.

This tour packs a lot in its three hours. The history the Jewish ghetto is fascinating. During the tour you learn about the ghetto's borders, what life was like for its inhabitants and visit the Synagogues + the museum. You also walk through the streets learning about what happened to the Roman Jewry during WWII. It is powerful to see how Jewish life remains. A highlight is visiting the bakery - come back the next morning before its classic cake is sold out! This tour was a great introduction to Jewish Roman culture and should not be missed if you are interested in that piece of Roman life and history
